Back Care Awareness Week: Massage, Posture & Everyday Relief
Is Poor Posture Causing Your Pain? Here’s What to Do About It
Back pain affects millions across the UK, making it one of the biggest causes of workplace absence and daily discomfort. Each October, National Back Care Awareness Week highlights this often-overlooked issue and it’s something we’ve been helping people manage for over 16 years here at the MindBody Therapy Centre in Forest Hill.
Massage can be far more than a luxury. By easing muscular tension, improving circulation, calming the nervous system and raising body awareness, it plays a key role in both preventing and managing back pain and sciatica.
How We’re Supporting Back Care Awareness
This autumn, we’re focusing on posture, pain and resilience — simple ways to help you move more freely and live with less pain:
- Chair Massage at the Centre (30 mins) – A focused session for back, neck and shoulders. Ideal if you’re sitting for long hours or carrying tension you can’t quite shift.
- Deep Tissue Massage - targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue to release chronic tension, ease pain, improve mobility, and support long-term postural alignment.
- Find Us in the Community – We’ll be at local Christmas events offering discounted taster chair massages, so you can experience the benefits first-hand.
Quick Tip: If you work at a desk, try standing up every 30–45 minutes, rolling your shoulders back, and gently drawing your chin in to realign your neck. Small resets like this, done consistently, can ease strain more effectively than a single stretch at the end of the day.
Is Poor Posture Causing Your Pain?
Many people search online for phrases like:
- “back pain from bad posture”
- “neck pain posture fix”
- “natural relief for posture problems”
Poor posture can creep up slowly from long commutes, hours at a laptop, or everyday habits like cradling your phone between your shoulder and ear. Over time, this builds tension that pulls on the spine and surrounding muscles, often leading to neck, shoulder and lower back pain.
Massage, alongside posture awareness and small lifestyle adjustments, can provide lasting relief. Regular treatments also help you tune into how your body feels, catching issues early before they become chronic.
Quick Tip: When sitting, keep your feet flat on the floor, hips slightly higher than knees, and your screen at eye level. A rolled towel at the lower back can support your natural curve.
