Acupuncture is the use of extremely fine needles applied in to the skin to regulate the flow of Qi on certain acupoints along your meridian lines - these acupoints are carefully selected after a detailed consultation to establish any patterns of disharmony within your body. This treatment is suitable for people of all ages from babies to the elderly. It is often beneficial for fragile or painful conditions, as well as during pregnancy, after an operation, accident, fall or injury and for young babies. At the core of the craniosacral system are the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord and which create subtle motions and pulsations throughout the whole body. Crystal healing is a form of healing that uses crystals or gemstones. The crystals are mainly placed on specific areas of the body called "chakras." Chakra is a Hindu term meaning spiritual energy. According to this teaching there are seven basic energy centres in the body, each having a colour associated with it. Some crystal healers place the same colour crystals as the colour of the chakras on the person to enhance the flow of energy. Crystals are said to direct the flow of energy to the person in a particular part of the body and bring balance to a person's energy. Ultimately, they are used to cleanse the person from bad or negative energy believed to cause an illness. Clearing out the bad spiritual energy alleviates the physical ailment. Crystals are used for physical, mental, emotional and spiritual healing. Not only do people visit "crystal healers", in some places, professional nurses are being trained to use crystals for their patients. Deep tissue massage (DTM) is a technique that focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. It aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body using advanced massage techniques, slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas. Over the years of practicing deep tissue massage, I have developed my own unique style. DTM can help to break up and eliminate toxins from muscles it can improve circulation and muscle tone and also promotes a sense of well being.
Why get a DTM?
As well as feeling good, it can be beneficial to your health. When muscles are stressed, they can block oxygen and nutrients. This can lead to inflammation, which in turn builds up toxins in the muscle tissue. DTM can help to loosen muscle tissue, releasing toxins from muscles, ensuring that blood and oxygen circulate efficiently throughout your body. DTM usually focuses on more specific areas and may cause some soreness during or immediately after the massage. However, you should feel better than ever within one or two days. Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)
Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is an emotional, needle free version of acupuncture that is based on new discoveries regarding the connection between your body's subtle energies, your emotions, and your health. EFT has been reported successful in thousands of cases covering a huge range of emotional, health and performance issues. It often works where nothing else will.
EFT is a meridian therapy with roots in Chinese acupuncture and Japanese Acupressure. It has evolved from psychologist Dr Roger Callahan's Thought Field Therapy and developed in the USA by Gary Craig. EFT is 'energy psychology', as well as acupuncture without the needles.
The discovery behind EFT is that emotional upsets are the result of an imbalance in the body's energy system which can cause physical symptoms.
EFT is a simple, non-intrusive method used to treat fears, phobias and pain. It can be applied to addictions, such as smoking, the desire to lose weight or relationship problems. With EFT you can remove blockages related to attitudes and beliefs, in order to achieve greater equilibrium.
How does it work?
EFT is a process that involves tapping on selected energy meridian points of the chest, face and hands. Some eye movements are also carried out, a short tune hummed and you count from 1 - 5. These actions work on stimulating specific parts of the brain, increasing the effectiveness of the energy interventions.
During the procedure the client tunes into the issue troubling them, summarising it in a short affirmation whilst tapping on the selected points with the fingertips. EFT works by accessing the energy flow meridians while the client is focusing on the issue. The body's energy system is balanced, removing any disturbance to the energy flow.
Simple issues may be cleared very quickly whereas more complex ones may need repeated rounds of tapping with the issue being addressed from a different perspective each time.
EFT is also designed so that clients can easily use it on themselves, once they have learned the simple, basic technique.

The Feldenkrais Method is an approach for improving both physical and mental functioning through the exploration of body movement patterns and the use of attention. It is based on the brain's innate capacity for learning and the potential for lifelong development and growth. Movement is used as the medium toward understanding our habits and identifying, learning and acquiring alternatives that promote ease and well-being.
Origins and development
The Feldenkrais Method was developed by Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais (1904-1984), who was born in Russia and immigrated to Israel, at the age of 13 (on foot!). After receiving degrees in mechanical engineering, he earned his D.Sc. in physics at the Sorbonne in Paris. Physically active, Feldenkrais played soccer and practiced martial arts. He studied with Kano Jigoro, the originator of judo and in 1936 became one of the first Europeans to earn a black belt in that discipline. A chronic knee injury prompted him to apply his knowledge of physics, body mechanics, neurology, learning theory and psychology to the body and mind. His investigations resulted in the formulation of a unique synthesis of science and aesthetics that is the Feldenkrais Method.

The Feldenkrais Method aims to improve physical and mental functioning. It is applicable to anyone wanting to enhance the quality of his everyday life and activities. People from many different walks of life do Feldenkrais. They report results of increased vitality, enhancement of self-image, better breathing and posture, greater flexibility and range of motion, and reduction if not disappearance of pain. By bringing attention to the process of movement, students usually feel lighter and more graceful, and have greater ease and effectiveness in turning their intentions to action.
Guided visualisation is one tool among many that can be used in the process of opening a cognitive communication between the conscious and subconscious minds. It is not a tool to create instant something from nothing. It does not demand that you "see something in your mind"; although many people using the technique do just that. You actually 'perceive' things rather than just 'see' because any of the five senses could be involved.
Throughout the UK millions of people are struggling with a range of debilitating habits including; smoking, weight, stress, self image and a vast range of fears and phobias. Heat Massage (Caribbean Heat Massage - full body)
I (Devon) was unwittingly taught Caribbean Heat Massage back in the 60's in a little farming village in Jamaica called St. Thomas. My Grandfather, a small holding farmer used to get me to heat up camphorated oil (Camphor oil), mixed with coconut oil to rub into his aching back and shoulder after a hard days work in the fields. The main factor of that was the heating of the oil over kerosene lamps and I didn't realise how much I was being taught at the time.
Came to England as a young boy and after many years became a therapist and on my visit back to St.Thomas I visited Bath Fountain, which are naturally heated springs. I was persuaded to have a massage from a local therapist who dipped my towel in the water then placed it on my back and proceeded to massage my back using the heat. This reminded me of my grandfather and his heated oils.
On my return back to England I tried and failed in many attempts to reconstruct those techniques. After years of practising heat massage, I feel I have now perfected the capturing of these feelings by my new treatment called 'Caribbean Heat Massage' This treatment is for pampering, relaxation or it can be combined with deep tissue to soothe aches and pains, relaxing muscles but rejuvenating you at the same time.
Herbal medicine works by stimulating the body's own natural resources to heal itself. This holistic approach is aimed at treating the cause of the problem as well as relieving associated symptoms. Herbal medicine has a long tradition in all cultures, and modern evidence-based research has proven many uses of herbs as medicine. Today's Herbal Medicine is scientifically evidence based. Whereas much of the medicine we get from our GP's and in the chemist has unwelcome side effects, herbs can provide a proven and effective solution to a wide range of physical and emotional problems.

Hypnosis is simply a state of magnified concentration. It is almost as old as mankind. Doctors used to use it in the 1800's to anaesthetize patients for operations. Today it is seen in a variety of fields including medicine, dentistry, law enforcement, professional sports and education.

Indian head massage uses and adapts classic Swedish massage techniques, for treating the scalp, face, neck, shoulders and upper arms. It is extremely effective for treating stress because it works on the areas of the body most affected i.e. the shoulders, upper back, neck and head. Reducing stress, helps to prevent stress-induced muscle spasm in the back as well as shoulders and arms and also reduces inflammation or subsequent pain.
However, although the treatment focuses on the upper torso and head, the effects are felt throughout the entire body. It is performed whilst the client is clothed, which makes it effective for short treatments (and for treating clients who are uncomfortable about undressing).
This massage improves circulation and helps to remove waste, particularly lactic acid, from muscles thus reducing aches and pain. Working on the neck and shoulders will help to reduce tension, stretch the tissues, increase flexibility and release tightness in overworked muscles.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common gut disorder. The cause is not known. Symptoms can be quite variable and include abdominal pain, bloating, and sometimes bouts of diarrhoea and/or constipation. Symptoms tend to 'come and go'. There is no cure for IBS, but symptoms can often be eased with various treatments. Have a massage but also see the naturopath / herbalist.

During pregnancy the mother may feel the baby move from 14 weeks. As various characteristics start to evolve in the time before birth, the technique may help create a safer environment in the womb for the baby to develop. Both mother and unborn child may benefit from the sense of well-being that arises from this work. Families may also have a closer bond with each other when receiving the technique at this time. It's a great way for families to communicate in a non-verbal way, and expectant mothers may experience an easier pregnancy and birth. The baby may be less traumatised when they are born, and may be calm, quiet and even curious about their environment.
Children also enjoy receiving the Metamorphic Technique. They may become more centred and calm, have more confidence, feel more empowered, and pay more attention. Parents with babies and young children visiting a practitioner are encouraged to share the session so that they can continue to use the technique at home. The Metamorphic Technique has also been used a great deal with children with physical and mental disabilities, as well as in schools for children with learning difficulties.

* A gentle light pressure is used on the areas of the feet which reflect the whole body. The hands may be used instead if the child does not want their feet to be touched.
* The reflexologist has a one to one interview with the parent/carer filling out a consultation form and answering any queries. This will take about 30 minutes. The parent/carer will sign this form to give consent for their child to have a session. The therapist will then give a reflexology treatment to the child which will last approximately 30 minutes. Follow-up treatments will take about 30 minutes.
* It is important to seek medical advice if there are concerns about the child's health prior to receiving reflexology. * After a session, a child will tend to feel relaxed, calmer and hopefully have improved concentration.

It is not always easy to stick at studying and sometimes you may wonder why the '**&(%$^&*^*dickens!' did I start it in the first place! However, there is usually a good reason why, even if the subject is not actually used, it could be the training, the discipline, the financial / career gain or even the social aspect that will be key at some point in your future.
Some people study only in the last night and do an exam in the morning however it only goes into their short term memory. If you are studying areas that go on to more difficult areas, it is worth spending the time to study and revise in order for the information to embed into your long term memory. You must be able to find your own study pattern, some are better in the morning, some at night, some can do 50 mins at a time, some 35 mins.

It just gets different and it's all through conscious choices!
Sometimes it is difficult to keep the balance, however I believe we all have something we hold onto in order to get us through life, whether it is spiritual, religious, family, friends, a particular habit or otherwise. However sometimes we are forced to look at our lives in order to re-adjust our priorities. What is it you really want to? How do you want your family home to run? What kind of social life do you want? Do you want to exercise more? Travel more? Do you live to work or work to live? Would you know who you are if you didn't work the way you do? Are you happy? Exhausted? Tired? These are some of the questions I ask clients when coaching.
Many times we just don't stop, think and have time to be still in fact it can be quite painful to be too still. However we all have a choice on how we live our lives. We owe it to ourselves to take responsibility and do the best for us and those around us. It may just take a tiny re-balancing, such as doing rather than speaking. Or starting that hobby on the weekend or going to a concert or gallery or having friends over more often and laughing more in order to make all the difference in our lives. Be all you can, enjoy the journey but live in the here and now by making conscious choices for tomorrow.
